With the secular decline of the rural economy, the belief has gained ground that education will be the road out of a scrimped and precarious livelihood on the farm. Inspired by this hope, rural children have flocked to schools that sans quality education.
I've been associated with UPAY since its inception in 2011 and has always seen the team have a firm belief in what UPAY wishes to impart to children in need that is quality education. While teaching, we came across children who couldn't even afford books. Buying a few sets of books to a couple of children looked like a temporary solution and soon a concept of Granth-on-Rath or a Mobile library came to our mind. A van we used to stack with books and would park somewhere in the middle of the village, from where the children used to pick the books they need and return after use.
As the number of children rose, from a different village, the van would relocate from one village to another after a week with the opening of multiple centers in villages apart it became difficult for us to cater them all through the Granth on Rath, which called for the establishment of a full-fledged library.
Last year, we've rented a space for the library at a prime location in Mouda which currently benefits more than 50 graduate-level children from various villages. Having a limited resource is a hurdle on our way due to which we're not able to enroll more children.
Through this campaign, I wish to further develop the library and provide a state of art facility for rural children and give them an opportunity to flourish. The funds raised will be utilized in the following ways:
1. Annual rent for the Library space- Rs 60,000
2. Books, Reference materials and newspapers- Rs. 15,000
3. Computers or Laptops- Rs 60,000
4. Salary for a full-time librarian - Rs. 55, 000
5. A premium membership for online video tutorials for competitive exams - Rs 10,000
