About Application and Selection Process

The application process starts from 1st April, 2022 till 20th April, 2022. The entire process can be completed online. We suggest candidates to apply as early as possible to avoid any kind of inconvenience.

Candidates holding a graduation degree or any equivalent degree in any stream or in final year of graduation can apply for this fellowship program. Candidates who are currently working and are looking for a domain or job switch can also apply for the Fellowship. Candidate’s age should be less than 30 yrs as on April 2022 .

The telephonic interview round will be of 25-30 minutes during which you are intended to know you better, help us understand your experiences and aspirations.

You can incorporate your real life relevant experiences, your ideologies regarding social work and the self-belief you have within to transform the society while answering the essays during the application process.

For a working professional – Letter of recommendation will be valued only if issued by the immediate reporting authority or Head of the Organisation.

For students – Letter of recommendation will be valued only if issued by the Head of the Department, Dean or Principal of the institution.

For those who are pass outs and/or are not employed at present – Letter of recommendation from any Government official or reference from any Industrial sector of previous association will be valued.

The venue for GDs, personal interview round, field visit and written exams will be at Delhi. The exact details will be communicated as the interview process advances. 

You can upload the document files in PDF format and photograph in jpg/jpeg format. All the files should be less than 1MB.

Academic scores are important but can’t be the sole criterion to judge a person. We will assess the candidate based on other aspects too.

Individuals committed to social work, able to handle arduous field-work, with leadership qualities, possess a unique bond with the kind of work s/he is associated with and an indomitable learning attitude to know and analyze the prevailing scenario and post-fellowship domain of work will be best fit for this program.

About UPAY Fellowship

UPAY Fellowship Program is an extensive, practical experience-providing 1 year residential paid fellowship program to develop future leaders who can lead the process of change in deep-seated inequalities within different sectors especially education and society across India.

The medium of instruction will be in English and Hindi.

The fellowship program will be a one year full-time paid residential program.

The fellows will be deployed to various working centres of UPAY based on the interest of the candidate and the organisation. The locations that shall be covered in the 1st cohort are: Nagpur, Delhi-NCR, Pune, Bangalore, Tura (Meghalaya), Kolkata.

This is the first year that UPAY has planned and is going to conduct its flagship project under the name of UPAY Fellowship Program.

You will be working in urban, semi-urban, tribal and rural area slums where our Reach & Teach centres are operational and in Footpathshalas on urban streets to get an insight of the actual synopsis.  Through this fellowship, you will get an exposure to the grass-root realities of India’s development sector and the state of challenges in the domains like education and skill development. The fellows shall be placed at various parts of India for community empowerment through collective efforts desired to improve the quality of education and livelihood of underprivileged children and youth.

After completion of the program, any of the fellows who wish to join UPAY will be offered full-time employment as per the openings in the organisation at that point of time. UPAY can only assure to guide fellows in converting opportunities into a successful job offer through its well-established strong network.

This fellowship program will prepare leaders of the future who will be efficient to serve as Project Manager, Development Officer, Project Coordinator, Operational Manager and other identical positions in Non-Government Organizations as well as Government and Corporate projects.

UPAY will be reimbursing the travel expenses of the candidates during the interview process. The charges of lodging have to be borne by self.

Every fellow should have good command over Hindi and English. Fellows should also be proficient in the the local language of the place of allocation, specified below –

Garo hills – Garo language

Kolkata – Bengali

Nagpur – Marathi

Pune – Marathi

New Delhi – Hindi

Bangalore – Kannada

  A monthly stipend of 12000 INR

  •       Travel, meal and lodging allowances while on a visit outside the centre as part of the program schedule.

UPAY will bear the expenses of travel, meals and accommodation of the fellows to all other locations, which will be a part of the program schedule, from the allocated center. UPAY will not be responsible to bear any kind of expenses during the stay at the location of deployment; only the stipend will be provided each month

During the fellowship period, leading academicians and industrial experts will be teaching state of the art information and ideas and will train and groom to bring out the best version in each of our fellows.

This is the first year of UPAY conducting its flagship project. However, this is not the first time for UPAY to conduct a fellowship program. The team has arranged numerous training sessions for fellows from other renowned organizations as a part of fellowship projects

UPAY will always ensure safety measures taken in the interest of fellows to be in place at the centre premises and strict policies have been adopted for this purpose. In case of any mishap, every possible aid will be provided and actions will be taken according to the policies of UPAY. Presiding Officers will be there in every centre to take care of issues regarding safety of the fellows.

Medical safety issues will be handled with care. Our team will be at the spot to cater the requirements of the moment up to the possible extent (e.g. – providing medical logistics). Any financial help shall be subjected to organizational approvals.

The safety of females in the accommodations, during travels, during field-visits will be specially taken care of. Female program coordinators will be there to deal with any kind of untoward incident with female fellows and in such contexts, stricter measures will be taken adhering to the legal aspects.

About UPAY

UPAY was born in the year 2010 holding the hands of Mr. Varun Srivastava and his few friends, in Kumbhari village near Mauda, 40 km away from Nagpur city, Maharashtra. Since then, with a vision of replacing the begging bowls with books and pens in little and young hands, UPAY is treading its path with an indomitable spirit.

Our current initiatives are focused on the problems that continue to come along with the existing ones. Our recent are on after-class meals, sanitary napkin distribution and promoting the need for menstruating girls and women, women-empowerment and community empowerment through vocational training sessions, disaster support network during the pandemic, managing the online platform Sabkasaman where the handicrafts and occasion-special needs are sold to help our artisans particularly women and children are some. Many more such initiatives are to be planned and executed to bring the right of equality in every strata of life for the down-troddens.
